Full professor at the University of Mainz

Dear Colleague,

Enclosed you find an advertisement for the position of a full professor at the University of Mainz which appeared in the March issues of the CERN Courier, Physics Today and the Physik Journal.

I was asked by the Directorate of the Helmholtz Institute at Mainz to help in searching for suitable candidates. This professorship is quite attractive because of the starting grant provided by the University of Mainz and the Helmholtz Institute Mainz (http://www.him.uni-mainz.de), a substantial annual budget for personnel, for investments, and consumables, a new building with laser labs being realized until 2014 and the funds becoming available with the new building for initial equipment.

Furthermore, the University of Mainz made very recently an important and successful step in the Excellence Initiative in Germany: The Joint Commission appointed by the German Funding Agency DFG and the German Council of Science and Humanities has just announced that the University of Mainz has been selected to submit full proposals to the German government's
Excellence Initiative for 2 Clusters of Excellence and also for a Institutional Strategy of the University of Mainz. The announced position would fit very well into the proposed Cluster of Excellence "Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter".

The deadline for application is 30 April 2011. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many regards
Jürgen Kluge
